Caregiver in Rockville Center NY
Unfortunately, remaining independent is a struggle for most people as they get older. As a caregiver, you can help your loved one by making life more manageable by using the following techniques:
Write simple to-do lists
Lists are valuable resources that help us achieve small goals every day. Make a list of simple tasks that need to be done around the house. On your next visit, check to see what tasks were done. This will help you learn their limitations and needs.
Provide them with essential household aids
There are household aids that can ensure your loved one remains safe, such as stair lifts and grab bars. You can also consult with an in-home care professional to get more information.
Check in regularly
As a caregiver, you want to ensure that your parent is coping well every day. Schedule daily check-ins around your work schedule so that you don’t miss out. It is also an good idea to have a meal and spend some quality time with your loved one while you’re checking in.
Network with neighbors
Make an effort to introduce yourself to the neighbors. Neighbors can be a great asset keeping a close eye on your loved one. In case of emergencies, they will be close by and can assist.
Consider hiring an elder care professional
If you notice your loved one still struggling, consider hiring a home care professional to make it easier for him/her. It’s always important to consider the needs and limitations of your loved one. Knowing this will help you know how help them in the most effective way possible.
