Thanks to the expert opinion of Lauren Scalcione, RN Administrator, Star Multi Care has made another positive contribution to the staffing crisis in New York. Lauren was interviewed this month by Newsday regarding her opinions of the upcoming aide shortage that home health agencies will be facing within the next several years as the number of elderly and disabled clients increasingly choose to receive care in their homes.
Ms. Scalcione addressed Star Multi Care’s ability to offset the mounting problems many of her competitors seem to be facing regarding staffing issues with the Company’s use of social media and bonuses as robust recruitment methods. She admitted they have noticed an increase in weekend shortages and have seen a decline in the number of applicants coming in personally to apply for direct care positions. However, the current situation has not seemed to repress the total number of applicants they receive. They recently have noticed a higher frequency of online applications. “We try to make the application process as easy as we can so we utilize text and email platforms”, Lauren stated. “People prefer to apply from the comforts of their own home – just like our clients prefer to receive care in the same setting”, she explained.
Recruitment remains a constant challenge for everyone in home care. “We have to be extremely creative and a step ahead of the competition to maintain the desired market share”, Lauren stated. However, Star Multi Care’s strongest force remains to be direct employee referrals. “Our employees continually tell their friends and family how nice it is to work here because we value each and every one of them. We treat them like our own family”, she concluded.
