Some caregivers avoid hiring elder care providers because they worry that they’re passing off tasks and responsibilities that they should be handling themselves. There are quite a few different circumstances that contribute to whether this is the right option for you.
When You’re Out of Time
Time is an incredibly precious commodity and you can’t do anything to get it back once it’s gone. You can only do so much yourself during a day, so having someone else that you can rely on to help your senior when you can’t is a tremendous load off of your conscience.
When You’re Out of Energy
Chances are very high that you have quite a few more people relying on you than just your senior adult. There is your boss, your family, and maybe even some pets. You only have a certain amount of energy to devote to everything that you need to do in a given day. Being able to delegate some of those tasks to someone else can help you make the most of the energy you have.
When Your Elder Is Alone Too Often
You can’t be with your senior adult as often as you would like, that can leave her alone too often. Many seniors don’t have the same social life that they used to have and finding new friends can be difficult. Isolation can lead to depression and worsening health, which is something you definitely want to avoid for your elderly family member.
When Your Elder Needs Help Moving Around
Some health conditions can leave your senior unable to move around easily on her own. If you’re not physically able to help her move around or to get into and out of bed, she can easily feel stuck in her own home. Experienced elder care providers can help your elderly family member move without causing injury to themselves.
When You’re Overwhelmed
Caregiving can easily become overwhelming for you. First, there are the endless tasks that need doing. Just as important, however, is the fact that the emotions involved in caregiving can feel larger than you expect them to feel. This can leave you feeling vulnerable and needing time away.
The bottom line is that whenever you and your aging adult can use some extra help, elder care providers are an excellent solution.
