Most people assume Medicare will cover the cost. Unfortunately, Medicare will only pay for skilled services up to 100 days in a nursing home and the average nursing home stay is 2 ½ years. In addition, most private insurance plans do not provide a long term care rider and most people over age 65 are currently not holding Long Term Care Insurance plans.
