Senior Care Walks to End Alzheimer’s Disease

Senior Care in Rockville Center NY

Every September, The Alzheimer’s Association works locally, nationally, and globally to bring forth information and awareness, care, and support to everyone who is affected by Alzheimer’s or any other type of dementia. Local chapters are found communities across the nation providing helpful services, information, and support groups. The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is created not only to enhance awareness, but also to raise funds. These funds are used toward research, support, and Alzheimer’s care. Families helping with senior care can walk in honor of their loved ones.

About the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease

Touted the largest event geared toward raising awareness, this annual walk takes place in over six hundred nationwide communities. Participants of all abilities and ages join up with their teams in an effort to develop a better future. The entire community joins together including friends, families, social groups, and co-workers to display their dedication toward fighting Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. No fees are required to participate in this community walk, however all participants have an expectation to raise funds toward the contribution to the overall cause, which includes raising awareness about the disease. Free tools, support, and materials are provided by the Alzheimer’s Association so each participant is able to reach the goals they’ve set for themselves.

Every Participant is On a Mission

Every participant walking is on a personal mission supporting their aging loved one, as well as supporting a larger cause by:

  • Adding fundraising dollars to an important cause that will enable individuals to receive benefits from research, support, and Alzheimer’s care.
  • Actions through participation, as well as fundraising, raise awareness with regards to Alzheimer’s disease within the loved one’s community.
  • There are certain incentives available to some participants based upon their performance, as well, and they will receive an email with more information about this following their walk.
  • Loved ones will feel honored and that their life has meaning in knowing how many family members, friends, and community members have walked for them.

Families Concerned About Alzheimer’s Disease

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, the sixth leading cause of death in the nation is Alzheimer’s disease. However, despite this reality, the majority of Americans are not aware of their condition because they have not received a diagnosis. With that in mind, families helping with senior care can ensure their loved ones are receiving regular health screenings and they are watching for warning signs.

Warning Signs

There are ten basic warning signs families can watch out for when helping their aging loved ones with elder care. If they are experiencing difficulty with memory loss which causes disruptions in during home care routines, problem solving issues, problems completing routine tasks, time or place confusion, difficulty with visual imagery, speaking or writing issues that were not previously an issue, losing things, judgment issues, becoming socially withdrawn, and personality or mood changes. These symptoms could be experienced in varying degrees, one or more at a time, and a doctor should be consulted if one or more is present during in-home care routines.
